Mazda Shinari Concept

Mazda has releases its future design direction with the sleek Shinari concept car. which will make its public debut at the Paris Motor Show at the end of September. The stylish four-door coupe previews the look of the next generation of Mazdas and ushers in a new design language.

With the launch of the new concept, Mazda also announced that the company’s future design language will be described by the word Kodo, which is Japanese for soul of motion. Talking about the new design language, Ikuo Maeda, general manager of Mazda Motor Corp.’s design division said: "this design will lead to the next generation of Mazda design and will lead to other elements."

The coupe shows the future face of Mazda's family of vehicles -- an aluminum signature wing, the line that runs through the headlights and under the grille -- as well as the overall styling trend for future production models.

The Shinari as a four-door coupe is a clear signal that Mazda is targeting the premium segment where similar vehicles such as the Aston Martin Rapide, Porsche Panamera and upcoming Fisker Karma already reside. In order to do so Mazda officials ackowledged that interior quality levels must improve.

The company has not released any official information on the Mazda Shinari yet. When it will, we'll be able to show you high resolution images of the Mazda Shinari and to offer a full set of details on the new concept.

2011 De Macross GT1

These are the first pictures and details of a new supercar from fledgling Canadian company De Macross Motors Corp (DMMC), which was set up in 2009. It's called the GT1, and CAR has been given the lowdown on this new supercar.

The power of the De Macross GT1 will come from a 5.4-litre V8 engine produced by North American company Roush Yates Racing Engines. If you're not familiar with this company, you just have to know they also provide the engines for Ford's NASCAR activators. This means the De Macross GT1 will have some serious muscle under that skin.

Performance figures aren't forthcoming yet, but with a chassis made from carbonfibre and aluminium, don't expect it to lose out at the lights too often. De Macross claims the GT1 will be 'comparable to other supercars in this elite category such as the Pagani Zonda' in performance and price.

De Macross hasn’t released the performance and pricing features for the vehicle, but the company claims that these will be comparable to what the mighty Pagani Zonda offers.

We can expect a first full-scale GT1 to be completed in November 2010, with testing to follow. First orders will be taken ’somewhere in 2011′ and DMMC reckons on selling around 200 cars maximum.

2011 Holden Commodore VE Series II

Holden has just released the 2011 Holden Commodore VE Series II, a facelifted version of the VE Commodore that will be available with either a 3.0-liter V6, 3.6-liter V6, or a massive 6.0-liter V8.

The 3.0-litre SIDI V6 and 6.0-litre V8 engines are the ones compatible with E85 fuel. The flex-fuel system allows the car to use organically-developed ethanol fuel at the standardised 85 percent ratio. Using this fuel is said to reduce CO2 emissions coming out from the tailpipe by as much as 40 percent. And it doesn’t matter if you top the car up on regular unleaded or premium unleaded either, the engine and its software will figure it all; there’s no need to ‘switch’ from fuel to fuel.

A similar story can be told about these cars' interiors – minute tweaks to fit and finish have been made, though the big news is the addition of GM's new Holden-iQ infotainment system, available on all Series II models. Holden-iQ incorporates audio, Bluetooth and navigation functions into one 6.5-inch touchscreen interface, as well as a back-up camera (not available on the Ute).

Other standard facilities inside embody Bluetooth connectivity, iPod and MP3 harmony and memory USB hang ports. This is all passable by a 6.5 inch iQ screen. This shade additionally displays satellite navigation information – customary upon SS-V, Calais-V and Caprice models.

Press Release

  • Smart new touch-screen infotainment system on all models
  • Improved fuel economy and reduced CO2 emissions across the range
  • 3.0L V6 and 6.0L V8 models capable of running on bio-ethanol
  • Interior and exterior styling updates across all models

With the new range Holden has finessed the formula that has made Commodore the nation’s top selling car for 14 years straight, introducing smart multimedia technology, improved fuel economy and the capacity to run on environmentally friendly bio-ethanol.

VE Series II brings more multimedia features to the Commodore range than ever before through an all-new infotainment system that delivers full Bluetooth®, USB, iPod® and MP3 player integration across the range.

Known as Holden-iQ, the system is controlled through a clever, user-friendly touch screen mounted in the centre stack - the cornerstone of a refreshed interior across all models.

Introducing increased plug-and-play music functions and the ability to rip and store CDs on an internal flash drive[1], the system also delivers advanced satellite navigation features on selected models including live traffic condition alerts to help drivers avoid road congestion.

Commodore’s smart technology extends to the Series II powertrain line-up which delivers further fuel economy improvements on all models.

Holden’s frugal 3.0-litre SIDI V6 now achieves economy of 9.1 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres in the official ADR81/02 test. The 2 per cent improvement adds to the 12 per cent fuel economy gain made in September last year when Spark Ignition Direct Injection engine technology was introduced to the Commodore range.

The 3.6 litre SIDI V6 used to power premium Commodore models makes average fuel economy gains of more than 3 per cent while all luxury and performance models powered by Holden’s Gen IV V8 improve on average by more than 6 per cent.

The fuel economy improvements also result in reduced emissions across the range with all V6 models now achieving a four-star rating in the Federal Government’s Green Vehicle Guide.

In a major step towards creating a cleaner Australian fuel landscape, Series II introduces flex-fuel technology which enables customers to run their cars on bio-ethanol, known in many markets as E85; a blend of up to 85 per cent ethanol and 15 per cent petrol.

Bio-ethanol is a cleaner burning fuel made in Australia from the waste bi-product of wheat, sugar, sorghum and eventually even household garbage.

In Australia today use of the fuel reduces lifecycle CO2 emissions by up to 40 per cent when compared to petrol.

A first for an Australian-made car, Series II models powered by the 3.0 litre SIDI V6 and 6.0 litre V8 engines will feature this flex-fuel capability, allowing them to run on bio-ethanol, E10, Unleaded, Premium or any combination in between.

To support Holden’s release of flex-fuel vehicles, leading fuel retailer Caltex has introduced Bio E-Flex, a high-ethanol blended fuel to be sold in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane and Canberra from October.

Holden Chairman and Managing Director, Mike Devereux, said Series II, which also receives a range of exterior design enhancements, reflected Holden’s focus on continuous improvements for Commodore.

“Our approach to Commodore has been about making a great car even better,” Mr Devereux said.

“It’s about introducing more improvements more often and getting technology into the car that our customers need and want.

“That’s what we have done with VE Series II.

“Our customers have been telling us they want to see our models refreshed with greater functionality from Omega to Caprice.

“We have listened and responded in a way that continues to position Commodore as the smart choice for Australian motorists.”

Mr Devereux said the introduction of flex-fuel capability to Series II vehicles highlighted Holden’s commitment to making motoring better for the environment through leadership with alternative fuels.

“We have placed an enormous emphasis on developing technology that can be used in today’s vehicles to make driving better for the environment.

“That has included leading the way for Australian produced cars with bio-ethanol, providing motorists with a cleaner fuel alternative when filling up their car.

“It is the first major step forward in our efforts to move renewable fuels like bio-ethanol from a niche product into the mainstream, by making it available on Australia’s top-selling carline.”

Smart Technology – Holden-iQ

The Holden-iQ system brings music, telephone and satellite navigation features to Series II models in one clear, user-friendly arrangement.

The focus of the system is a fully integrated, 6.5-inch full colour multifunction LCD touch screen mounted in the centre stack of all vehicles across the Series II range.

Featuring rich colour graphics, the display has been benchmarked against high-end multimedia products such as computers, phones and video games, providing a wide range of audio-visual functions.

Music can be played via an iPod®, memory stick, CD or wirelessly transferred from a paired mobile phone. USB devices and iPods plug into dedicated sockets located inside the centre console, and all music file playback from compatible devices is controlled via the touch screen.

Holden-iQ also introduces ‘virtual changer’ CD storage which replaces the mechanical stacker system from previous models with the capacity to rip and store up to 15 CDs on an internal flash drive. The system supports CDDA, CD-R, CD-RW, MP3 and WMA playback. DVD systems, where fitted, also display on the Holden-iQ touch screen.

New Bluetooth® functionality improves drivers’ hands-free mobile phone experience. It synchronies a compatible phone’s address book and recent call history then displays the information on the touch screen. Outbound calls can be made via the contact list or a dedicated touch-screen key pad.

The high-feature Holden-iQ navigation system, standard on SS V-Series, Calais V-Series and Caprice models, delivers a high-clarity full colour mapping system, intuitive controls, live traffic alerts, speed advisory and point of interest functions. Voice guidance is integrated into the vehicle’s audio system.

It also features a touch screen keyboard to facilitate easy text entry, isometric and 3D map views and on-screen turn-by-turn and audio route guidance.

On those same models (except Ute) the touch screen also features a reversing camera display which is activated whenever reverse gear is selected. A strong safety feature, the colour screen display operates in tandem with audible park assist and works to show any obstacles directly behind the vehicle.

Improved Fuel Economy and reduced CO2 emissions

Holden engineers and designers working on Series II have instituted a series of modifications to produce an average fuel economy gain for all V6 models of 2.8 per cent and an average fuel economy gain for all V8 models of six per cent – making a combined average of just over four per cent across the VE and WM Series II range.

Modifications included aerodynamic improvements, which lower fuel consumption by reducing

the vehicle’s drag co-efficient, and mechanical changes. Omega and Berlina models were also fitted with lower rolling resistance tyres.

Aerodynamic improvements include:

  • Addition of panels under the vehicle floor to reduce airflow drag (sedan and Sportwagon, excluding Omega)
  • Reduced trim height on Omega and Berlina sedan
  • Air deflectors fitted to the front of sedan rear wheels (Omega, Berlina Calais)
  • Rear decklid re-design to include aero lip detailing (sedans)
  • Front undertray modified to reduce drag

Mechanical changes include:

  • Fitment of a clutched air conditioning compressor, which does not pump when the air conditioning system is turned off
  • Engine idle speed reduction on 3.6L V6 SIDI variants

Further fuel saving enhancements see the Omega Ute brought into line with the remainder of the Commodore range, benefiting from Holden’s economical 3.0-litre SIDI V6 engine matched with the six-speed automatic transmission.

Styling

The multi-award-winning VE Commodore made a strong and dramatic design statement, characterised by its classic rear wheel drive proportions and an athletic stance emphasised by striking wheel arches.

For VE Series II, designers briefed to refresh the exterior have executed a series of subtle changes, including new front fascia, grille and headlamp treatments across the range.

Berlina specification and above feature new alloy wheels and the upper decklids of the sedan models are enhanced with integrated aero lip detailing.

On the interior, Holden has continued its trend of creating unique personalities for each model.

Mainstream, prestige and sports models all receive new centre stack features, mouldings, decoration and illumination colours.

Interior design work has focused on high standards of perceived quality, and creating a more ‘pilot oriented’ cabin integrating new features and accessories.

ABT Audi TT RS 501 hp

The tuners from ABT Sportsline have released a new power upgrade for the Audi TT RS. debuting a power package back in September 2009 that helped put down 420-hp from the roadster. An 80-hp increase from the factory 340-hp, most would think that would be enough to keep everyone happy. But ABT Sportsline wouldn’t be ABT Sportsline if they didn’t find a way to break the 500-hp mark.

The ABT Audi TT-RS comes with 161 HP (118 kW) over than what the standard version has to offer, which translates into a total output of 510 HP (368 kW). The tuners previous upgrade package called the ABT POWER was squeezing 420 HP (309 kW) out of the German 2+2 coupe.

Try 0-100km/h in 4 seconds and a top speed of 292km/h if you go for the POWER S version, or 0-100km/h in 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 282km/h if you choose the lessor POWER upgrade.

The tuner offers a set of 19 and 20 inch BR and CR Superlight alloy rims for the TT RS. These use a dynamic design that accentuates the car’s sporty lines and are fitted with high performance tires.

The new "Power S" tuning package not only includes chip tuning and an ABT intercooler, but also gets an upgraded ABT turbocharger. The result is a total output of 501 HP and a sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 4 seconds flat. Don’t worry, they’ve thought about the appearance too. ABT will also be offering a variety of wheels as an aesthetic upgrade.

The most powerful ABT TT of all time is the ABT TT-RS

What a force of nature in a very compact coupe: with the new ABT TT-RS a powerful 501 HP (368 kW) is now available with ABT POWER S. That is an impressive 161 HP (118 kW) more than the dynamic series standard model from Ingolstadt. Even with ABT POWER there is still 420 HP (309 kW) available, and with it the TT accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds (series standard: 4.6 seconds). The top speed is then 282 km/h. “It goes without saying that with 501 HP the TT is even more sporty”, says Hans-Juergen Abt. The General Manager of ABT Sportsline explains that the innovative ABT Turbo charger is applied on the POWER S version. With it the TT-RS sprints easily to 100 km/h in just 4 seconds and accelerates on powerfully up to a top speed of 292 km/h. Driving enjoyment, sportiness and the feeling of DTM and ADAC GT Masters champions – at ABT the abbreviation “RS” now more than ever stands for Racing Sport.

Christian Abt is responsible for the excellent driving characteristics and perfect tuning of the ABT TT-RS. “Maximum motorsport feeling with maximum everyday usability” – that is how the experienced racing driver characterises the features of the new vehicle from Bavaria. Anyone who drives the ABT TT-RS knows what its cool features are, and even those who only get to see it for a short time quickly recognise which mould it is cast from: this is because before you can count to three, the powerful Kempten car is already off and away.

As a suitable addition to the fastest ABT TT of all time it is recommended to mount the classy sports alloy wheel creations BR and CR in standard 20 inch. The latest highlight is the
ABT CR Superlight in a sporty 19 inch. The cool design wheels are, of course, also available in combination with high-performance tyres. Anyone who wants to travel fast needs suitable tyres – and Christian Abt has used his experience to also take care of this: “The car is controllable in all situations. Only by ensuring this is it also fun to drive a sports car on the road.”

APS Sportec Audi S5

Sportec, renowned German car tuner based in Switzerland – notably accustomed to tuning Porsche 911s to epic proportions – has now taken a spanner or two to the latest Audi S5 and found an extra 72kW inside the new 3.0-litre supercharged V6. Enhancements made to the engine control unit give the engine completely new mapping which includes an increase in supercharger boost pressure.

The Stage One kit consists of an ECU upgrade and a free flowing air filter element and this is apparently enough to give an extra 97 HP to the car’s engine, taking it from 328 HP and 440 Nm to an amazing 425 HP at 6,640 rpm and 520 Nm of torque, almost like the Audi RS5.

So instead of 328 bhp at 6000 rpm standard you get 425 bhp at 6640 rpm, while the stock car’s 440 Nm (325 lb.ft) is now upgraded to 520 Nm (379 lb.ft) at 4250 rpm as well. They say it considerably enhances the in-gear and fast cruising performance of the car, in keeping with its luxury GT credentials, but don’t expect much as the acceleration time from 0 to 60 mph is reduced by 0.5 seconds and the top speed is still limited to 155 mph.

The performance figures of the Sportec Audi S5 say it can jump from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds, but the top speed is till limited to 155 mph. The Sportec Audi S5 price is 1950.00 GBP.

Sportec Audi S5 Sportec Audi S5

Press Release

APS of Brackley, UK importer for the Swiss Sportec range of exclusive vehicle enhancements, is delighted to announce a new performance upgrade for the 2009 onward models of the Audi S5 quattro coupe and cabriolet using the 3.0-litre supercharged, V6, TFSI powerplant.

Labelled the ‘Stage One’ upgrade, Sportec’s S5 performance enhancement package consists of a free flowing air filter element and a carefully developed ECU remap. In combination this has a dramatic effect on the power characteristics of the supercharged 2995cc Audi engine, with peak power increasing from 328 bhp at 6000 rpm to 425 bhp at 6640 rpm, a significant gain of 97 bhp.

Similarly, Sportec’s Stage One upgrade delivers a prodigious increase in torque output on the Audi S5, producing a maximum of 520 Nm (379 lb.ft) at 4250 rpm, compared to peak figure of 440 Nm (325 lb.ft) from the factory.

Careful development by Sportec’s technicians ensures that over 80% of the maximum torque output is available from 2750 to 6250 rpm, which both perfectly suits the characteristics of the car’s 7-speed S-Tronic transmission and highlights the user-friendliness of the conversion.

The additional power and torque output realised by the Sportec Stage One upgraded Audi S5 considerably enhances the in-gear and fast cruising performance of the car, in keeping with its luxury GT credentials. However, when exercised to the full, it reduces the 0-62 mph (100 kmh) by 0.5 seconds to 4.6 seconds, while top speed is limited at 155 mph for safety reasons.

Suitable for coupe and cabriolet models of the 3.0-litre TFSI supercharged Audi S5, the Sportec Stage One upgrade is available now from APS Sportec priced at £1950.00 fitted including VAT.
