 Swiss Court Slaps Millionaire with a Record  Breaking $290,000 Speeding Ticket!


In most parts of the world, speed offenders are usually slapped on the wrist with a reasonable penalty. But not in Switzerland where high-speed fines are calculated based on the motorist’s income and/or wealth. So what happens if the wrongdoer is a millionaire? Well, simply put, the driver is screwed makes world headlines.

In this case, an unnamed Swiss millionaire was impaled handed down with what is said to be a world record breaking fine of $290,000 or €203,000 for going 137km/h (85mph) in an 80km/h (50mph) speed zone in a Ferrari Testarossa.

The judges at the cantonal court in St. Gallen, in eastern Switzerland, are said to have taken into account the driver’s history of similar speeding offenses, the high speed with which he drove through a small village and his estimated wealth of over $20 million.

According to reports from the Swiss media, the fine is more than double the country’s previous record of around $107,000 for a Porsche driver.
